Jean-François Girard is a Canadian artist who was born in Québec City. He does photography, video, painting, drawing and web art, mediums through which he develops the concept of the digital book. He exhibits in Québec City, Montréal, New York and Paris. According to him, art is a way to transcend the ordinary of everyday life. Commonplace then becomes poetry. The artist performed five multimedia shows where he mixed in videos, narration and music. He won several prizes in the Web Art category at the 2004 Vidéastes Recherchés contest. During his latest exhibitions at Galerie Bernard in Montréal and at Galerie Étienne De Causans in Paris in 2010, he explored the possible uses of digital versus silver film, while working out an urban survival guide. In the darkroom, he takes an interest in "photogramme," uses flashlights and puts his chemicals in a sprayer in order to leave its trace on the paper. Some of his works are part of the Loto-Québec and Colart collections.
